This lecture explores dyspepsia (indigestion), focusing on symptoms such as upper abdominal discomfort, bloating, belching, and heartburn. Students will learn to differentiate between functional dyspepsia and alarm symptoms suggestive of serious underlying pathology (e.g., gastric ulcers or malignancy).
Pharmacological treatment options, including antacids, H2-receptor antagonists, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), will be covered, along with non-drug interventions. The role of the pharmacist in screening, counseling, lifestyle advice, and appropriate referral is emphasized.
