Traffic Engineering
Intersection defined as the general area where two or more highway join or cross. Also,
Traffic Engineering
Speed : is the rate of movement of vehicle in distance per unit time, usually expressed in (km/hr) or (m/sec).
Spot Speed : is the instantaneous speed of a vehicle at any specified point . there are two types of vehicles average spot speed:
Time Mean Speed (TMS) : average speed of all vehicles passing a point over same specified time interval.
Traffic Engineering
Traffic stream parameters classified into two groups:
1- Macroscopic parameter: describe the traffic stream as a whole, includes the following:
• Volume
• Speed
• Density
2- Microscopic parameter: describe the behavior of individual or pair of vehicles, includes the following:
• Headway
• Spacing
• Speed of individual vehicle
Traffic Engineering
Characteristics of the Driver, the Pedestrian, the Vehicle, and the Road
The four main components of the highway mode of transportation are:
1. The driver
2.The pedestrian
3.The vehicle
4.The road
Traffic Engineering
Traffic Engineering: is a branch of transportation engineering that deals with planning, geometric design, and traffic operation of roads, streets, and highways, their networks, terminals, and relationships with other modes of transportation.
