Gastritis, peptic ulcers, and stomach cancer are related conditions, with gastritis potentially leading to ulcers and, in rare cases, cancer. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining, which can progress to ulcers (open sores). While most cases of gastritis are benign, some forms of chronic gastritis, especially those with thinning stomach lining and cellular changes, can increase the risk of stomach cancer.
