Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, often caused by gallstones. Gallbladder tumors, including both benign and malignant growths, can also affect the gallbladder and sometimes mimic cholecystitis or be found alongside it. Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) is a specific type of chronic inflammation that can be mistaken for gallbladder cancer.
