PLATELETS
Platelets also called thrombocytes are irregular, extremely small and discshaped elements, 2-4um in diameter. The normal platelet count is approximately 150- 400x109/L , and the normal platelet life span is 7-10 days. They play an important role in blood coagulation. Produced in bone marrow, by fragmentation of the cytoplasm of megakaryocytes.
