HEMOGLOBIN (Hb)
• Hb is the specialized protein molecule in red
blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to
the body's tissues and returns carbon dioxide from
the tissues back to the lungs.
• The major organ in the human body depends on
oxygenation for growth and function, and this
process is ultimately under the control of
hemoglobin.
• Function of Hemoglobin
• 1. Hemoglobin is an oxygen carrier.
• 2. Hemoglobin is a carbon dioxide carrier.
• 3. Hemoglobin gives the red color to blood.
• 4. Hemoglobin maintains the shape of RBCs
• 5. Hemoglobin acts as a buffer.
• 6. Hemoglobin interacts with other ligands.
